CS373 Spring 2021: Shaharyar Lakhani — Week 10
Hey there and welcome to week 10 of my blog!
What did you do this past week?
This past week, I worked a bit on the sorting feature for the project. I learned that a lot of frameworks for react allow you to add this automatically, but now the challenge is to figure out how to implement it in the code. I also had a lot of work for my other classes, but I was also able to get a lot of it done.
What’s in your way?
I feel like I’m burnt out. Virtual learning is pretty difficult for me, and I think it just drains me so that after my classes, I don’t want to stare at my screen any longer. The problem is, all of my other work is online. This makes it really hard to focus and be productive.
What will you do next week?
I will continue to work on phase 3 of the project, as well as finish up other school work. I also plan on starting phase 4 and setting up myself and my team to finish the semester strong.
If you read it, what did you think of the Why getter and setter methods are evil?
I thought it was an informative article. I realized that getter and setter methods are dangerous because you basically allow users to manipulate internal data. This is definitely problematic because you don’t want something that should be private to change.
What was your experience of select, project, cross join and theta join? (this question will vary, week to week)
I thought that this weeks material was interesting. It’s cool how python has methods that allow you to model a database. I think Professor Downing did a great job of teaching the material, and it helped both in Python and SQL skills.
What made you happy this week?
I received a full-time job offer! It’s crazy to think that I am going to be an adult soon. I feel like I was barely in college. However, I’m excited. Hopefully I’ll be able to thrive in my career.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I started using Notion to manage my time and tasks, and I think it has been really useful. I feel like I have more time on my hands, and that I can actually sprinkle in some of the bigger ideas I have throughout the day. It’s crazy how much time management can clear up your schedule. https://www.notion.so/
